What are the odds for Hungary to make the Euro 2024 quarter-finals?

The European Championships are just around the corner and Hungary will be hoping to fight their way through the knockouts. But what are the odds for Hungary to make the quarter-finals of Euro 2024?

The Hungary national team was founded in 1901 and first appeared at the Summer Olympic Games in 1912 in Sweden. Although some people are not aware of the country’s footballing pedigree, Hungary actually have a deep and illustrious history in the sport. The Hungary national team has won the Olympic title on three separate occasions, as well as making two World Cup finals in 1938 and 1954. Their most successful European Championship run came in 1964 when they finished third.

The most famous Hungary team came in the 1950s when they developed a new tactical style that changed the sport forever – Total Football. This Golden Generation included football legend, Ferenc Puskas, who has a FIFA award named after him to this day for the best goal scored in a calendar year. This Hungary side achieved the highest Football Elo Ranking of all-time with 2230 and went on a remarkable 31-game unbeaten streak. They have odds of 3.75 to roll back the years and make it to the quarter-finals at Euro 2024.

What are the chances for Hungary to win Euro 2024?

Hungary have been placed into a group with Euro 2024 hosts, Germany, as well as Switzerland and Scotland. While that may sound like a tricky group on paper, the Hungarians have every chance of making it through to the knockout stages. Although Hungary are only ranked as the 26th-best team in the world, the other teams in Group A don’t fare much better. Switzerland are ranked 19th in the world and even Germany are only 16th. Scotland are the lowest-ranked team in Group A down in 39th.

Hungary actually come into Euro 2024 in some of the best form out of any country in the world, let alone the continent. The last time they lost a match was September 2022 in a 2-0 defeat to current European champions, Italy. Since then, they have beaten the likes of Greece, Estonia, Bulgaria, Lithuania, Serbia, Montenegro, Turkey and Kosovo.

The star of the current Hungary team has to go down as captain Dominik Szoboszlai. The Liverpool star may have fallen short of the Premier League this season, but he has been in fantastic form for the Reds in England. The all-action midfielder is not only a combative central midfielder but has a real eye for goal from range which could come in handy for the Hungarians this summer in Germany.

Hungary have odds of 3.75 to reach the quarter-finals of the European Championships, 9.00 to reach the semi-finals, and 80.00 to go all the way and win Euro 2024 outright.
