Odds on Portugal to win Euro 2024

What are the odds for Portugal to win Euro 2024?

The European Championships are just around the corner and Cristiano Ronaldo will be looking to inspire Portugal to another famous win. But what are the odds for Portugal to win Euro 2024?

Cristiano Ronaldo will be hoping for one last dance with his beloved Portugal this summer as they arrive in Germany for Euro 2024. Founded in 1921, Portugal has a rich history of producing some of the most skilful players on the planet, from Ronaldo to Luis Figo to Eusebio and more. Portugal didn’t appear at a major tournament finals until 1966 but has been a regular fixture at World Cups and European Championships since then.

Portugal finished as runners-up at Euro 2004, before making the semi-final at Euro 2012. However, the pinnacle of Portuguese football came in 2016 when they famously won their first-ever major trophy, the European Championships in France. Three years later, they added the debut Nations League to their trophy cabinet too. Heading into Euro 2024, we are giving Portugal odds of 9.00 to go all the way.

What are the chances for Portugal to win Euro 2024?

Portugal have to go down as dark horses for Euro 2024 as it would be a stretch to list them among the favourites to win the tournament. But, when you have Cristiano Ronaldo on your side, anything is possible!

Let’s not pretend they don’t have a wealth of talent beyond the former Real Madrid superstar too. Bernardo Silva and Ruben Dias are among the most decorated players in the world at the moment thanks to their success in England with Manchester City. Diogo Jota and Pedro Neto also offer a burst of direct speed at the top of the pitch, while the likes of Bruno Fernandes, Joao Felix, and Joao Cancelo are all capable of creating chances from nothing.

Portugal have been placed into a favourable group this summer too – Group F. With Czechia, Georgia and Turkey for company, you would expect the Portuguese to comfortably finish top of the standings and qualify for the knockout rounds.

Apart from a recent blip against Slovenia, Portugal also happen to be in good international form. In fact, they went on an 11-game winning stream between 2023 and 2024, including victories over Sweden, Iceland and Slovakia. They are currently ranked as the sixth-best men’s football team in the world, behind only Brazil, England, Belgium, France and Argentina. With Cristiano Ronaldo turning 39 years old this year, this could well be his final major tournament with Portugal and he will be doing everything in his power to go out with a bang.

Of course, Ronaldo no longer plays his club football on the continent after a move to Saudi Arabia, but he has scored 128 times in 206 games for his country so it would be foolish to rule him out. In the GOAT debate, Lionel Messi recently added a World Cup to his trophy cabinet, piling even more pressure on Ronaldo to come up with some kind of response. He heads into Euro 2024 with more Ballon d’Ors to his name than every other player heading into the tournament combined. But can he come up with a few more magic moments for Portugal at 9.00 odds?
