Odds on Switzerland to win Euro 2024

What are the odds for Switzerland to make the Euro 2024 quarter-finals?

The European Championships are just around the corner and Switzerland will be hoping to fight their way through the knockouts. But what are the odds for Switzerland to make the quarter-finals of Euro 2024?

The Switzerland men’s national team was founded in 1895, although they are yet to win their first major international tournament. Between 1934 and 1954, the Swiss made it into three World Cup quarter-finals, which is the furthest they have gone in the competition. Switzerland actually hold a rather strange World Cup record as they were eliminated from the 2006 competition despite not conceding a single goal, losing on penalties to Ukraine in the Round of 16.

At the European Championships, Switzerland failed to make it out of the group stages in their first three attempts but have seen a lot more success of late. At Euro 2016, the Swiss made it to the Round of 16, before beating world champions France to make the quarter-finals at Euro 2020. They currently have odds of 3.50 to repeat the feat and make the quarters once more.

What are the chances for Switzerland to win Euro 2024?

Granit Xhaka will come into the Euro 2024 tournament flying high off the back of his historic Bundesliga win with Bayer Leverkusen this season, ending decades of Bayern Munich dominance. How poetic that the European Championships should be hosted in Germany this year. Not only that, but Switzerland are in the same group as the Germans too! Hungary and Scotland make up the rest of Group A, which gives the Swiss a decent chance of making the knockout rounds.

Switzerland are currently ranked as the 19th-best team in the world, which is actually only a few places below Germany in 16th. Hungary are the 26th-best team in men’s football, while Scotland are down in 39th. That makes it a pretty open and evenly-matched Group A for fans to enjoy, with all four teams having a chance of making it through the group stages. Switzerland will certainly not be daunted by the prospect of taking on Germany, even at a home tournament.

The Swiss come into Euro 2024 in some mixed form, with a whole lot of draws in their recent history. Their last win came back in September 2023 when they defeated Andorra 3-0, but since then they have recorded draws against Belarus, Israel, Kosovo, and Denmark, as well as a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Romania. Granit Xhaka is obviously the star of the current Switzerland team, but Xherdan Shaqiri still has plenty to offer despite being 32 years old and playing in the MLS these days. Monaco’s Breel Embolo was also a real handful for defences at the last European Championships, so the Swiss definitely have tools to hurt the opposition.

Switzerland currently have odds of 3.50 to make the quarter-finals, 9.00 to qualify for the semi-finals and 75.00 to go all the way and win Euro 2024 outright.
